My own handmade stuff

As I mentioned before, I have very few handmade items of my own (handmade by me, that is) because I usually either made things for others or to sell them...
Today I wore this little green cotton sweater I made ages ago (seriously, I was in middle school...it's that old):

It's actually quite funny that I still wear or even like this particular sweater cause, honestly, it's all kinds of wrong...it's way too short (always has been), way too wide and it twists on itself in a weird way, but yet...I like it! The effect of all these flaws combined is that it looks like a loose cropped short sleaved sweater and that makes it pretty wearable! I also wear it often in winter with long sleeved tops underneath. And what's really amazing is the quality of the cotton, this piece is more than 10 years old and the yarn is still perfect, no pilling, no stretching, still shiny and soft. I'm in awe. I remember I bought it from my favorite yarn store, next time I go I'm going to try to see if I can figure out which yarn it was and if I find it I'm going to buy a significant amount for my (dangerously ever-growing) stash.

Inspiring stuff on the web

I need to get in the mood for fall/winter knitting while I'm finishing off the last summer projects...here are some interesting things I found on the web for a little inspiration...

Also, the last time I visited this site was ages ago...they redid it and it's awesome...(check out that red short sleeved cardigan with cables in the "Knitting notes" pattern book, love it!)

I'm back!

If you ever happen to go to Massa Marittima, Tuscany, go to Le Fate Briache...it's a teeny tiny restaunt, the wait is a little long but well worth it, it was so good! I could have eaten everything on the menu and still want more...

Soooo...

I'm up at this ungodly hour because I'm leaving for the seaside for a few days...my etsy shop will be in vacation mode while I'm away, but I'll be back soon!

I'm looking forward to sand between my toes, good food and I'm hoping for good weather, and a slightly more tanned skin when I come back! (I don't tan much, but I am very very pale so a little is good...)

7 threads

Why hello there! My first day of freedom has been thouroughly enjoyed, even though I am wondering why it is so COLD all of a sudden...hello, we're in july? I wore tights this evening, this is not normal. Oh well whatever....

Siamo a luglio perdincibacco! Vabbeh...

Just so you know, my summer projects are slowly coming along, right now I'm working on a tank top, and this particular project involves 7 threads hanging from my needles. It is, I will admit, a little confusing...but I like the way it's coming out! I'm just going to say it has something to do with an old video game. And I'm also going to say that I hope that will be clear once the top is finished, I'm not so sure...you will see soon enough...

I'm free! Life is good!

Ok so I took my exam today, failed as I had expected, but it wasn't too bad! I actually got some compliments for how I had answered the first question (the second I had no idea) and some advice for the next time. All this gave me the slight confidence boost I needed so I'm feeling good for semptember!
And now...I'm freeeeeee, ahhh feels good!

Oh my.

(image via: www.apotheke-mayr.com)

I love the packaging of these ice teas! I saw them on a commercial in a magazine and thought they were so pretty! I don't even like ice tea (I drink my tea hot) but this makes me want to buy it. I am the perfect example of the customer you can lure into buying your products just by presenting them in a pretty little package. Not good.

No bene.

To do list.

Things I want to/ have to do after this exam:
1) Sleep.
2) Go to the movies.
3) Go see all the exhibitions I've been wanting to see lately.
4) Take this little guy to the vet to get him vaccinated:

5) Go talk to the professor that is going to be my thesis advisor (I disappeared for way too long)
6) Read! Stuff I actually enjoy reading!
7) Get a hair cut, my hair is way too long. For the past few years I have had my friends cut my hair (see pictures below) but I decided this time I'm going to an actual hair salon.

6) Leggere! Cose che mi piacciano!
7) Farmi tagliare i capelli, son decisamente troppo lunghi. Negli ultimi anni me li son sempre fatti tagliare dalle mie amiche (vedi foto) ma a sto giro mi sa che andrò dal parucchiere (darò il mio contributo a far girare l'economia stagnante)

8) Go out and stay out, I don't know where, don't care, go to a club or something, as long as it involves coming home when the sun is starting to rise.
9) Go buy a pair of high heel sandals that do not destroy my feet like the previous pair.
10) Go to the sea side!
11) Knit to my little heart's content.

 11) Lavorare a maglia quanto vorrò!

But I am not yet done with this exam. Let me tell you, going to take an exam knowing your almost certainly not going to pass it is not a nice feeling. But this is the hardest exam I have to take and up till now I have always freaked out about a week before and postponed it while taking other exams instead. Since it's the kind of exam people generally have to take about 3 or 4 times before passing it, it's about time I start trying. And I can't say I didn't study, I've been studying for the last few months, but the subject is very difficult for me (administrative law, I study art history and not law for a reason) and I am very very slow at it. I read/underlined/took notes and studied the whole book once (which took forever) and reviewed about 1/4 of it. That's not enough, and I only have today and tomorrow morning left. But I will go, receive my insults gracefully (he's that kind of professor) and leave with a curtsey and a smile!

On "collections"

Although I started selling my handmade knits two years ago, I only last year decided I was going to start coming up with "collections" rather than with single random items of clothing. I put that in quotation marks because the word sounds somehow weird and maybe even presumptuous in this case, but I can't come up with a better way of calling a group of clothing items that are somehow similar to one another, or, as Nina Garcia would say, cohesive. Cohesive. After watching a few seasons of Project Runway I have come to the conclusion that that must be Nina's favorite word. But I am digressing.
Last winter in particular I made two such "collections", the first was based on neutral and pastel colors:

The other one was a little more "luxurious" and with lots of...here they come...jewel tones! (see I come up with trends one year in advance, I am that cool, yes yes):

(As you can see there are a few non-knitted garments in there too, I got my sewing machine for Christmas last year and put it to good use straight away!)

Some of these items I have sold, others not yet, and I will put them up on my etsy page as soon as the time comes for a fall/winter update...
