F.O.: Beige triangular shawl with lace detail

I finally managed to complete a triangular shawl and have it work out! I think this one is really pretty, the lace pattern I found in an old magazine and I think it looks great with this lovely cotton I used which has great stitch definition and all in all the shawl is tiny, cute and versatile, I think it turned out well!
Details on my etsy page!

A few F.O.s but a rookie mistake...

Sooo, remember the triangular shawl I mentioned in my last post? The one I was so confident about? Well I finished it and it turns out I made a mistake...and a real rookie mistake that is! It's still wearable, it doesn't look too bad but it is definitely not professional enough for me to put it up on etsy, so what happens is...my mom gets it! I'm kind of embrarassed about how stupid the mistake is, so I'm not going to explain it nor am I going to post a close up picture lest some expert knitter happens upon this blog and laughs at my inexperience (I'm probably exaggerating, I know)...so all you get is this picture of what the scarf looks like when it is worn, as you can see...not too bad after all...

What is going to go up on my etsy page is this little scarf I finished a few days ago, my first spring-summer item this year. This I'm quite satisfied of, I used an acrylic-ramie blend i've used plenty of other times and I like the lacy pattern, what do you think? Pretty and wearable I think.

P.s. I still have some winter projects on my needles at the moment...I decided I'm going to break my own rule of no-more-wool-after-march and just go ahead and finish them all even if that might still take a while, while still working on spring items like these I just showed you.

My own handmade stuff and a sneak peek!

Most of the things I own that I knit for myself are really really old, this sweater for instance, that I actually wore yesterday, dates back to when I was in middle school. The yarn is a thick cotton and the quality must have been amazing because it doesn't pill and it didn't stretch or sag anywhere...maybe maybe it shrank a little, that could be the case because the sweater is very short, but maybe that's because of a combination of me being too lazy to make it long enough and the fact that it was in the late nineties and we wore our sweaters short, remember? And I must have grown too, I guess..

This is a project I'm working on now, it's going to be a triangular shawl/scarflette, and it is the first time (or second, after a failed attempt) I'm making a triangular scarf using the traditional method of increasing with YOs. For some reason I found it confusing (it really isn't at all), and I could never really figure out how it worked...but now I got it and the scarf is coming along just fine, and let me tell you, after months and months of wool, working with fresh cotton feels like heaven...and the cotton I'm using is really lovely, it's really shiny, don't know how much you can tell from the picture...but trust me, it's great.

Last saturday my boyfriend and I took a little day trip to the Langhe area, we drove through or stopped in Cherasco, Narzole, Novello, Barolo and La Morra and visited the wine museum in the castle in Barolo. The area is gorgeous even though this isn't its best time of year since march is kind of an in between moment between winter when everything is covered in snow and spring when everything is blooming, but it was still really beautiful.

The wine museum...let's just say we were glad we got in for free thanks to our museum card. It's inside the castle so I was actually more interested in seeing the inside of the building but still when the lady that gave us the tickets told us it was a very "modern and interactive" museum, designed by the same architect that did the museum of cinema in Torino, I became quite curious. But while I love the latter, this museum just felt a little, silly maybe? It's great for kids, no doubt about that, but it isn't really that informative, you walk around a series of rooms where you read things you probably knew already (e.g. "time (or light) is a really important factor in the wine producing process", oh, really?) and where you are surrounded by installations that somehow reflect time, or light or the various other important factors in the production of wine. It's not bad really, but you still leave feeling a little perplexed (if I wanted to go see crazy art installations I would go to the contemporary art museum in Rivoli). One room was interesting though, the one that told you the story of wine (or alcoholic beverages in general) from the prehistoric era to nowadays...and I will admit the child in me did have fun cycling on a double bicycle-like thing that makes you go round a circular room with images of the Langhe countryside in the various seasons...but I still think this sort of museum works better for cinema than it does for wine.

Noteworthy...

Last year, during fashion week in Milan, my mom, cousin and I happened to go see an exhibition (if you can call it that way) in beautiful Palazzo Morando where young fashion designers got to showcase their work. It was free and it was very interesting. This year I read in the January issue of Vogue about this contest and noticed that the 2011 finalists exposed their work in the same building and same period, which made me wonder if the young talents we got to see last year (or rather, two years ago...it was September of 2010) were the 2010 finalists or if the exhibition we saw was something different. Anyways, while going through the article (it was actually more pictures than words), the designer that caught my attention most was Alessio Spinelli, a shoe designer, so I looked him up on the internet and discovered that he eventually won the 2011 contest. Also I read that the 2012 Who is on Next? contest is taking place right now and that it is the eighth edition...if the finalists will expose their work next September I might try to go...
Anywho...here are a few of Spinelli's shoes...beautiful, are they not?
