New yarn!

My parents were away this weekend and it has become a tradition that whenever they go somewhere they come back with a little yarny surprise for me, which is obviously always very appreciated! This time it's two different cotton yarns. The pink one is from Alma filati, a brand I've used a lot before that has incredible quality yarns, it's 100% egyptian cotton and very shiny, I was thinking of making an open cardigan using a type of construction I've been wanting to try for a while. The blue one, by Ornaghi filati, is still 100% cotton but very different, not shiny, very soft and it feels a little more raw if that makes sense, I was thinking of making a tank top out of this one, but I have to brainstorm a little...

F.O.: Pink cowl with sequins

I love this cowl, I almost want to keep it for myself! I used two yarns together, a wool acrylic blend and a mohair blend with tiny little pink sequins. The two yarns are slightly different in shade, one is a little more pink, the other one more violet, so together they make this gorgeous variegated effect, plus the mohair makes it slightly fluffy, with a pretty aura, and the sequins give it a tiny bit of sparkle when you move around. It feels really luxurious, I love it! The stitch, which I kind of made up as I went, is perfectly reversible, and the cowl is basically a big warm tube you can pull over your shoulders in many different ways or hang loosely around your neck.

Rain

It's been raining non stop and cold for days, where did spring go? This weather has had me knitting some of the winter garments I want to get done before I take the necessary heat-induced break from wool. For one of these garments I'm using two yarns together, an acrylic-wool blend and a lovely mohair yarn with sequines weaved into it, here's a little sneak peek:

I know the picture isn't great...the lighting is what it is with this weather. I'm also working on a summer project and making the effort to time how much it is taking me to knit it up. I've attempted this before a few times because knowing how much it takes to make something can help me evaluate my pricing better, but I always gave up because I got tired of using the timer while knitting (I'm always picking up and putting down my knitting, taking breaks etc. It takes discipline to time myself well). I'm hoping I'll manage this time because I want to figure out whether I'm a fast knitter or not, and have a clearer idea of how much I can get done in how much time. I chose a smaller project for this in the hopes of being a little more consistent, I'll let you know!

F.O. Tiny white jacket with sparkling trim

Finally, finally I have an F.O. to show you! This jacket seemed to take forever to make...just to give you an idea it took me all morning today just to do the sparkly trim! But I'm happy with the results, I was thinking of making the trim a little thicker but opted for keeping it this way, I think it looks a little more youthful and refined this way. Details on my etsy page!

Yes, please!

The new Kim Hargreaves book Indigo is out on the website and I love love love love it. Yes I had to do the teen-style repetition of the word "love" to stress this....after a few slightly disappointing books I have to say, this one is amazing. The designs are young but classy, I love the sophisticated palette she chose and the styling is great, really inspiring! Here are some of my favorites:
