F.O.: White cotton summer cowl!

Hello there! I finally edited and posted the pictures of this summer cowl I made a while ago, it's crocheted in a lovely pure white cotton with a pretty airy lace pattern...details on my etsy page!

F.O.: White summer drawstring sweater

Here is the F.O. I mentioned in my last post...finished, blocked and photographed! It's a lightweight summer sweater that closes in the front with a drawstring. It's very simple and clean, and it is also the result of a happy incident... I started it at my boyfriend's house and realized I had brought with me two needles in two diffferent sizes (a 5 and a 4), but I was really impatient to start it so I tried working with the two needles together, and loved what happened...the rib pattern I was using turned out lovely with the slightly wavy effect that resulted from having two different sized needles, and once I switched to the stockinette stitch the result was just as beautiful! If you look closely at the close up picture you will see what I mean...

Ecco il capo finito di cui parlavo nell'ultimo post...finito, bloccato e fotografato! Si tratta di una maglia aperta leggera chiusa davanti con un laccetto. Semplice e pulita, è anche il risultato di un errore di percorso finito bene...l'ho iniziata a casa del mio ragazzo e mi sono accorta che mi ero portata dietro due ferri di due dimensioni diverse (un 4 e un 5), ma ero troppo impaziente di iniziarla quindi ho provato a vedere cosa succedeva lavorando con due ferri diversi...il risultato è venuto fuori benissimo! Il punto a coste è venuto leggermente ondulato e la maglia rasata ha delle striature regolari appena percepibili (vedi la foto del dettaglio), mi piace moltissimo questo effetto...

All in all I love this sweater, I think it's very versatile (I think it might even work as a cover up on the beach with shorts), the yarn is a ramie-acrylic blend that is soft yet slightly shiny and very fresh for summer...

Sono decisamente soddisfatta del risultato con questa maglia, penso sia molto versatile (probabilmente può funzionare anche in spiaggia da mettere sopra il costume abbinata a dei pantaloncini corti), il filato è un misto ramiè-acrilico che è morbido ma al contempo un pochino lucido e molto fresco per l'estate...

Summer knitting inspiration

I know I say this all the time but I wish I could knit more....I always thought I would have more time after I graduated, but now that I did, I'm still studying for something non-university related, plus looking for a job and it seems like I never have time. Or maybe I'm just not too good at time management...Also my wrist has been hurting more than usual recently which is little frustrating...I should stretch it more before knitting and take more breaks ...
I have however finished an item I will show you soon and I have been looking around for inspiration for summer knits and fallen in love with so many beautiful patterns, take a look:

So che ormai lo ripeto sempre ma mi piacerebbe avere più tempo per lavorare a maglia... pensavo che una volta laureata avrei avuto più tempo ma fra il fatto che sto studiando per una cosa non legata all'università, e il fatto che sono entrata nel meraviglioso mondo della ricerca di un lavoro, di fatto non è così....o forse è solo che non ho buone capacità di gestione del tempo.
Inoltre ultimamente il polso mi ha fatto più male del solito...devo fare più stretching e più pause mentre lavoro...
Ho però finito recentemente un capo che vi mostrerò a breve e ho dato un'occhiata in giro per un po' di ispirazione estiva e trovato una serie di modelli bellissimi:

Two summer F.O.s today! Dark blue summer shawl and beige beach hat

It's only recently started to look kind of like summer is approaching (and it's still freezing cold inside the house) but I finished two new summer items in the last few days...
Number one:
a pretty dark blue shawl in the most amazing shiny egyptian cotton, just look at the close up to see how lovely the yarn is!


Sono solo pochi giorni che sembra vagamente essere in arrivo l'estate (e in casa fa ancora un freddo cane) ma ho finito ben due capi estivi negli ultimi giorni...
Il primo è questo scialle/sciarpina per il quale ho usato un lucido cotone egiziano stupendevolmente meraviglioso, basta guardare la foto del dettaglio per capire la bellezza del filato!

Number two is this pretty beach hat in a beige cotton yarn. Now, remember when I said I love trying to knit things that usually aren't made out of yarn? Well this is not handknit, it's hand crocheted, but it's my attempt at making a straw hat out of yarn...and I love it! I'm going to experiment with this much more I think...wider brims, narrower brims, cloche shape...oooh the possibilities! Can't wait to make tons more of these!

Il secondo è questo cappello da spiaggia che ho fatto usando un cotone beige. Ricordate quando dicevo che mi piace tentare di realizzare a maglia capi che in genere non sono fatti di lana (o cotone?). Ora, qui non si tratta di un capo a maglia bensì all'uncinetto, ma comunque...questo è il mio tentativo di realizzare un cappello di paglia...in cotone. E mi piace tantissimo! Mi sa che proverò a farne tantissimi altri...a tesa più larga, a tesa più stretta, a cloche, con nastri, senza nastri....uuuuuhuuuu ideeeeeee ideeeeeeeee!

Knitting the unusual...

I've always liked the idea of knitting things that usually don't come in the form of knitted items. I've always found it sort of like an interesting challenge...how can I knit something that usually isn't made out of yarn but out of fabric? It's the reason why I love knit blazers and jackets and coats and pencil skirts...of course knit jackets and coats exist, but usually when I think about a coat I think of a thick wooly fabric, knit versions are sort of more unexpected, and the same thing goes with skirts and dresses.
This is one of the reasons why I love the Cheeky top in Kim Hargreaves latest book "Spirit", l've seen a bilion peplum tops like this in stores...but never in the form of a knit top! They were always made out of silk or polyester fabrics...I love the idea of knitting a top like this! I think I could knit my whole wardrobe if I had the time...except pants, that I will never make, handknit pants, noooo way, hate those...
The Spirit book is awesome by the way, so many beautiful patterns, it's true that the patterns in her books kind of all look the same, but I just love their style so that's not much of a problem for me!

Mi è sempre piaciuta l'idea di realizzare a maglia capi che in genere sono fatti in tessuto. La vedo come una sorta di sfida interessante...come faccio a creare con ferri e lana (o cotone) un capo che in genere è fatto con due metri di stoffa? È il motivo per cui mi piacciono moltissimo i blazer, le giacche, i cappotti e le gonne fatte a maglia...certo che esistono, (le hanno già inventate!), ma in genere quando uno pensa ad  un cappotto se lo immagina realizzato in un caldo panno di lana più che ai ferri....
Questo è il motivo per cui mi piace moltissimo il top Cheeky del nuovo libro di Kim Hargreaves...ne ho visto moltissimi di top fatti così nei negozi, ma mai in maglia! Erano tutti di seta o in poliestere e mi piace moltissimo l'idea di realizzarne uno in cotone a maglia, non ci avrei mai pensato! Potessi mi farei a maglia tutto il guardaroba penso...tranne i pantaloni, ecco quelli no, per carità.
Tutto il libro è bellissimo comunque...sarà anche vero che i suoi modelli sono un po' sempre uguali, ma mi piace talmente lo stile che penso non mi stuferò mai!

F.O.: Sand - beige summer tank top

Here's my first summer F.O. of the year! It's a very simple tank top in a pretty sand - beige 100 % cotton yarn. I basically made up the cable detail on the bottom as I went...I wanted something simple that somehow reminded me of plants and leaves (which I think fits perfectly with the natural/neutral color of the yarn) and in alternating lengths. I'm happy with the way the top turned out. I had pictured a longer top in my mind than how it turned out once I cast it off and seamed the pieces together, but I like this look. I think this top has an earthy look and is really perfect for hot hot summer days...

Ecco il mio primo capo finito estivo dell'anno! Si tratta di un top estivo molto semplice realizzato in puro cotone, di un colore beige - sabbia. Per quanto riguarda il dettaglio in basso l'ho inventato man mano che lavoravo...volevo qualcosa che ricordasse un po' delle foglie o degli alberi e di lunghezze alternate, e mi piace com'è venuto, trovo stia molto bene con il colore neutro e naturale del cotone. Sono contenta del risultato, mi ero immaginata un top un po' più lungo rispetto a come è venuto fuori una volta cucito, ma mi piace comunque anche di questa lunghezza, trovo sia perfetto per l'estate, semplice, fresco, naturale...
