F.O.: Light gray sweater with lace panel

A few years ago I went with two friends up to northern Piedmont to enjoy the lake scenery and good food, and to buy amazing yarn at the company Manifattura Sesia which is based in the area.
This is the first sweater I made with the yarn I bought on that trip and it is one of those cases where I felt like keeping the sweater for myself.
But on the same day I bought a similar yarn in a creamy off-white color with which I am planning to make myself a similar version of this sweater but with a different neckline, I just have to find the time (and finish another sweater I am making for myself, because I need some discipline around here).

F.O.: White sparkly circle scarf

I added a new item to the shop today, a sparkly circle scarf made up of two different yarns used together: a lovely white merino wool and a sparkly metallized yarn.
It has a textured pattern that gives it exra thickness and it looks good both loose around the neck and wrapped around twice.

F.O.: Olive green crochet lace shawl

I added a new product to the shop today, this lacy shawl I made using the same yarn I used for this tank top (which happens to be one of my favorite spring/summer items I made thus far).
I love making these shawls, they are simple and fun to make and very easy to wear in spring or summer (at least if you live in fresher places than I do, I cannot imagine wearing a scarf in this crazy hot weather we have been having).
I especially like how they look when they are wrapped around the neck, and they look great when you tuck them into a leather jacket on chilly spring days.

F.O. : Off-white cotton top with lace detail

It has been warm and sunny with a glorious warm breeze around here lately and I finally have a new product up on the shop, this cotton summer top with a lacy deorative border (I did it again, I used rows of different stitches as decoration, I can't help it, I find it looks so interesting and pretty).
I actually had something completely different in mind while I started knitting it, but that is the beauty of handmade items that you make up as you go, sometimes it turns out exactly as planned and other times the result is unexpected but you love it anyways.

Last bits of winter

This morning we woke up to the first snowfall of the year.
It has been a pretty warm and dry winter and I had forgotten how beautiful this city is when it snows...

I am actually really starting to look forward to spring but this brief moment (the sun came out later in the day and soon enough all the snow had melted away) reminded me of how calm and simply beautiful winter can be.
With that said, before winter comes to an end, here is a cold weather item I added to my shop today...

F.O.: The gray heathered shawl wrap

It seems like my last F.O. was ages ago, but finally, here we are.
I love this yarn, it's an ecological wool from the company Manifatture Sesia, an amazing company from the lovely wool area that is northern Piedmont.
The yarn is 50% virgin wool and 50% alpaca, with black and white threads twisted together for an interesting gray heathered look. It's soft and looks slightly rustic.
The shawl, which I posted glimpses of on Instagram a few times, has rows of contrasting stitches, some of which lacy, so it is textured and has some hints of lace.

F.O.: Light blue summer dress with mesh detail

I finally have an F.O. to show you, a cotton sun dress with a mesh detail on the collar which I made thinking about this top I made a while ago. The dress is short and sweet in a lovely light blue 100% cotton yarn from the french company DMC. I can imagine it worn both as a summer dress and as a beach cover up and it is very comfortable and stretchy, so perfect for summer travels.

Finalmente ho un capo finito da mostrarvi, un vestitino estivo in cotone con lo scollo traforato che ho realizzato basandomi su questo top che avevo fatto un po' di tempo fa.
Il vestito è corto e molto confortevole per via della lavorazione rasata che gli da elasticità e lo rende comodo da portare in viaggio, ed è perfetto sia come vestito che come copricostume.

F.O.: Sage green lacy tank top

And here we go with the first Spring - Summer item of the season! This is a very simple sage green lacy tank top in a cotton-wool blend (the wool is only 30% of the yarn and it doesn't make the fabric warm, it's fresh and light, just slightly softer). I have been playing around lately with layering different stitches and patterns for an interesting lacy effect and I love the intricate look this creates.

Ed eccoci con il primo capo della stagione primaverile ed estiva di quest'anno! Questa è un semplice top smanicato verde salvia con scollo a V realizzato in un filato composto da cotone e lana (la lana è solo il 30% del filato e non rende il capo pesante, è fresco e leggero, solamente un po' più morbido). Ultimamente sto tentando varie combinazioni di punti usati a fasce una sopra l'altra e mi piace l'effetto intricato di pizzo che questo sovrapporsi di punti crea.

F.O.: Heather gray and beige striped brioche stitch headband

I have always loved heather gray, but only recently have I discovered how chic it looks paired with beige, as the subtle difference between the two light, neutral colors just looks amazing. It might be all of the Scandal episodes I have been watching lately and Olivia Pope's incredibly elegant style that have made me discover this beautiful color combination.
Brioche stitch is also a relatively new discovery for me, and while I am initially intimidated by new stitches, now that I got the hang of it I just love it.
So this is the result...a pretty, very warm and soft 100% merino wool headband in subtle stripes of gray and beige.

Il grigio perla mi è sempre piaciuto moltissimo, ma solo di recente mi son accorta di quanto stia bene combinato con il beige, i due colori neutri e chiari, per via della assenza di un netto contrasto, creano un abbinamento estremamente chic.
Potrebbero essere tutte le puntate di Scandal che sto guardando ultimamente, e lo stile incredibilmente elegante di Olivia Pope, ad avermi fatto scoprire questa stupenda combinazione di colori che finora non avevo mai considerato.
Un'altra scoperta relativamente recente per me è il punto brioche. Inizialmente sono sempre un po' intimidita dai punti nuovi che non conosco, ma ora che ci ho preso la mano mi piace moltissimo.
Il risultato di tutto ciò è questa fascia in pura lana merino, a strisce verticali beige e grigie, morbidissima e caldissima.

That time I knit my friend's wedding gown...

I just came back from one of my closest friends' wedding in London.
She is such an incredible person, we have known each other for over ten years, been through all sorts of things together, and even though she lives far away it feels as if she had never left... it was so amazing to be able to be there on her wedding day.
The ceremony was simple and intimate with only the closest friends and family members there and it was such an amazing day! It was incredibly sweet, fun and hilariously funny all at the same time... as one of the guests put it "it was exactly how every wedding should be".
But what made the event even more special to me was the fact that I had the honor to knit my friend's gown. The idea came up almost by chance about a year ago when she told us the news, and since then I have been working on the dress, which was completed two weeks before the event (last time I went to London was to bring her the dress!). It was a daunting task indeed, but it was definitely the most incredible experience I ever had in my entire knitting life. Seeing her walk down the aisle in the dress I had made for her was a feeling I can't really describe. She looked absolutely stunning. Since it was cold she paired it with a Max Mara bolero and small coat. Gorgeous. Perfect.
The only pictures I have for now where you can really see the dress are a few pictures my dad took of the dress on me before I brought it to her, a few pictures I took with my phone on the day of the wedding and the first official picture, the black and white one, which was taken by the incredible professional photographer of the event, Elisabetta Riccio. I have seen a few of the other official photos but they aren't out yet, but I have to say that Elisabetta did a great job of capturing the essence of the bride and groom, and of the simple ceremony. She knew exactly when to pick up the camera and snap pictures without anyone noticing and I really, really recommend her, for any kind of event actually!

Sono appena tornata da Londra, dal matrimonio di una della mie migliori amiche.
Si tratta di una persona eccezionale, ci conosciamo da più di dieci anni, siam praticamente diventate adulte assieme (anche se per certi versi siam cambiate poco dai tempi del liceo), e anche se ora vive all'estero è come se non se ne fosse mai andata...è stato incredibile essere lì il giorno del suo matrimonio. La cerimonia è stata intima e semplice, con solo gli amici e familiari più stretti, ed è stata una giornata assolutamente fantastica: la perfetta combinazione di dolcezza, divertimento e risate da avere male ai fianchi. Per dirlo come lo ha detto una delle invitate "è stato esattamente come ogni matrimonio dovrebbe essere".
Ma quello che ha reso la giornata ancora più speciale per me, è stato il fatto che ho avuto l'onore di realizzare per lei il vestito, a maglia. L'idea venne fuori quasi per caso un annetto fa quando ci diede la notizia, e da allora ci ho lavorato tutto l'anno, fino a qualche settimana fa, quando ho completato il vestito e sono andata a Londra a portarglielo. In tutta la mia vita da lavoratrice a maglia non ho mai avuto un'esperienza così incredibile, vederla entrare con il vestito addosso quel giorno è stata una sensazione che non riesco veramente ad esprimere a parole. Era splendida. Dal momento che faceva freschino, lo ha abbinato con un coprispalla e una giacchina di Max Mara. Meravigliosa. Perfetta.
Le uniche foto che ho per ora in cui si veda bene il vestito sono un paio di foto che ha fatto mio papà del vestito addosso a me prima che glielo portassi, qualche foto fatta col telefono il giorno del matrimonio, e la prima foto ufficiale, quella in bianco e nero, fatta dalla fantastica fotografa professionista dell'evento, Elisabetta Riccio. Ho visto un po' delle altre foto dell'evento che però non sono ancora uscite, e devo dire che sono veramente spettacolari. Elisabetta è riuscita perfettamente a catturare l'essenza sia degli sposi che della cerimonia in se', e riusciva sempre a beccare esattamente il momento giusto per tirare su la macchina e scattare una foto praticamente senza farsi vedere. La consiglio tantissimo, per qualsiasi tipo evento in realtà!

F.O.: Heathered brown lacy shawl

As I work on projects for the upcoming spring and summer season I am also finishing off the last winter items. This one is a brown lacy crocheted shawl in a wonderfuly soft wool-acrylic (60% wool, 35% acrylic and 5% alpaca) blend. The yarn is a very chic heathered brown color and the shawl is actually a perfect transitional piece for when the days start warming up a bit.

Mentre lavoro sui capi per la prossima stagione primaverile e estiva, sto finendo gli ultimissimi progetti invernali. Tra questi c'è questo scialle traforato marrone in un bellissimo e morbidissimo filato misto lana (60% lana, 35% acrilico e 5% alpaca). La lana è in una tonalità molto chic di marrone mélange e lo scialle è un perfetto capo di transizione ora che le giornate iniziano a scaldarsi un pochino.

F.O.: Heather gray headband with cable

I added another headband to my shop today! I actually made a headband almost exactly the same as this one for myself years ago with some beige wool that used to belong to my great-aunt, and I keep it in my bag all the time in winter so that if I forget to bring a hat (which happens very often) I can just take it out if my ears feel cold.

This one here is knit using a 100% superwash merino yarn in one of my favorite colorways, this light heather gray that I think looks great paired with a number of different colors. I used a garter stitch border on this one so the edges don't curl (my beige one has stockinette edges, so it does curl, and while it looks really pretty that way, it doesn't offer as much warmth as this one does), and a pretty cable all around it.

Oggi ho aggiunto una nuova fascia al negozio! Fra l'altro me ne ero fatta una quasi identica a questa con della lana beige che avevo trovato che apparteneva all mia prozia, e la tengo in borsa tutto l'inverno così se dimentico di portarmi un cappello (cosa che accade spesso) posso tirarla fuori se ho freddo alle orecchie. 

Per questa fascia qui ho usato una lana 100% merino in uno dei colori più belli in cui viene, questo grigio perla chiaro che trovo si abbini bene con un sacco di colori. Ho usato un bordo a legaccio per far sì che non si arricci ai lati (a differenza della mia beige dove ho usato un bordo a maglia rasata che si arriccia creando un effetto molto bello ma offrendo meno calore alle orecchie), e una treccia lungo tutta la lunghezza.
